About ME

This is me (most likely laughing at my own joke), on MY TV SHOW, 'WORD TO THE MOTHERS', ON MADE TELEVISION. I don't like to go on about it though. Ps did I mention that my blog has its own TV show?

Ps did I mention that my blog has its own TV show?

Hello there! I’m Zeena, a 45-year-old journalist and mum of two. My eldest is five and youngest, three. And yes, I am knackered. In fact, that, and shitty acid reflux, prompted me to start this blog a couple of years ago. Like a lot of mum bloggers, I woke up one morning after a particularly evil night and felt the need to spew my rage on the internet. Two very long months of writing my first blog post followed, and then finally, Word to the Mothers was born – helped by wine, not an epidural.

Some people really liked my cursey, testy sense of humour – The Mirror, Good Housekeeping, The Sun, Bristol Life, Netmums, shotdeadinthehead and KidRated, among them. Some people were less keen. A few trolls said I was a shit mum and the NCT, having initially asked me to write something for them, declared that on reflection, perhaps my blog was ‘not on-message’ for the NCT. I took it all as a badge of honour. It’s true, I am no Earth mother. And I’m alright with that. My lovely partner Pete and both my very-happy kids, seem to be, too.

Then, in the summer of 2016, an executive producer at Made Television emailed me to ask if I had any telly ideas around my blog. After he vetoed my idea of a show featuring a group of mums, drinking wine and dropping more c-bombs than Jason Statham, we got to work on a chat show idea that was, in his words, slightly less aggressive. A few months later, I found myself watching Word to the Mothers the TV show, and wincing as I flirted horribly with CBeebies’ Andy Day, and tenuously asked Good Morning Britain’s Richard Arnold if looking after his cockapoo was, in any way, shape or form, like raising a child.

WORD TO THE MOTHERS THE TV SHOW (yes, I shout that a lot), series two has just aired, and if you care to watch me threaten the careers of Holly Willoughby and Claudia Winkleman in no way whatsoever, you can have a beak at the show, here: https://www.madeinbirmingham.tv/video/?video=x6cwv4s

Fuck the NCT.
